Debut Bass 25 is a compact combo for home practice and recording, and the feature list was chosen by asking what a bass player starting out actually needs instead of how many controls would fit on the panel.
Two channels and a 3-band EQ
You get a clean channel and an overdrive channel, so the amp covers a plain, even bass sound and a dirtier one without any menu diving. The 3-band EQ gives LOW, MID and HIGH controls, which is enough to correct a boomy room, thin out a muddy bass or push a mid range that cuts through a recording.
A single 8-inch speaker
The 1 x 8 inch speaker sets the character of this amp. It is a practice size, meant for a bedroom or a corner of a room, and it keeps the whole combo small enough to move with one hand.
Playing along and playing silently
A Line In takes a phone, laptop or media player so you can learn a part against the record or simply listen through the amp. The headphone jack handles silent practice, and Line In sources play back in stereo through the headphones, so backing tracks keep their width while your bass sits on top.
Why the simplicity is the point
Blackstar's stated aim with the Debut Bass amps was tone and usability ahead of unwanted extras. Everything on the panel is a control you will reach for, which is what makes it a practical first bass amp or a second amp for a room where the big rig does not belong.
