The FLY 3 Bass pushes a surprising amount of low end out of a single 3-inch full range speaker. Blackstar designed both the speaker and the cabinet for this job, and the result is a battery capable practice amp that still sounds like a bass rig at low volume.

  • 3 watts, 1 x 3-inch: a specially designed speaker and cabinet that push far more low end than the size suggests, and it goes surprisingly loud.
  • Onboard EQ: takes you from warm, round thump to a cutting tone that suits a pick.
  • Overdrive circuit: does a convincing impression of a raging tube bass stack.
  • Compression control: evens out your attack, which slap players in particular tend to appreciate.
  • SUB button: one press piles on extra warmth and low end.
  • Line input: takes a 1/8-inch feed from a phone, laptop or music player for playing along.
  • Line and headphone output: speaker emulated, so it runs straight into a recording device and lands a usable bass tone.
  • Speaker output: for the FLY 103 extension cabinet.

Description

Blackstar's FLY 3 Bass packs huge low end and articulate highs into a cabinet that houses a single 3-inch full range speaker. Onboard overdrive and compression shape the tone, and the line input and line or headphone outputs make it a genuinely useful silent practice tool.

Tiny size, big sound

The specially designed speaker and cabinet let the FLY 3 Bass move enough air to impress a bassist, and despite being only 3 watts this combo is surprisingly loud. That means fewer tonal compromises when you are practising quietly, which is where most small bass amps fall apart.

Wide tonal range

The onboard EQ control runs from warm and round thump through to a cutting tone that begs for a pick, so the amp suits players across styles and genres. An overdrive circuit does a great job of sounding like a raging tube bass stack. The compression control evens out your attack, which is especially appealing to slap style players, and if you want still more low end there is a SUB button that piles on the warmth.

A convenient practice tool

  • Line input accepts a 1/8-inch feed from a phone, laptop or MP3 player for playing along
  • 1/8-inch line output doubles as the headphone output and is speaker emulated
  • Run that line straight into a recording device to send bass tones to a track
  • Speaker output for the FLY 103 extension cabinet
  • Runs on 6 AA batteries for playing away from mains power
