The St. James Vertical Cabinet was designed around one thing that matters to anyone who carries their own gear: weight. Candlenut plywood keeps it light without making it fragile, and the vertical 2 x 12 format puts the top speaker closer to ear height on stage.

  • 140 watts: vertical 2 x 12 inch cabinet.
  • Candlenut plywood construction: light to carry and durable enough for the bumps and dings of road life.
  • Celestion G12Z-70 Zephyr speakers: exclusive to the St. James range, from squeaky cleans to aggressive leads.
  • Removable back: run the cabinet closed or open backed and change the low end character.
  • 4 and 16 ohm outputs: straightforward matching to your head.
  • Illuminated logo: a contemporary, minimalist look that suits a stage or a studio.

Description

Blackstar built the St. James Vertical Cabinet for guitarists who load their own van. The priorities were portability, big and bold tone and contemporary looks, and the result is an original design rather than a lighter copy of an old one.

Candlenut plywood, and why it matters

The cabinet is made from candlenut plywood, which keeps the weight down while staying durable enough to handle the inevitable knocks that come with gigging. A 2 x 12 that one person can carry up a flight of stairs gets used far more often than one that needs two.

The Zephyr speakers

Inside are exclusive Celestion G12Z-70 Zephyr speakers, developed for the St. James range. They cover jazzy leads, edge of breakup cleans and searing solos, and they are a large part of why this cabinet sounds bigger than its weight suggests.

Open or closed back

The back panel is removable, so the same cabinet gives you closed back focus and punch or open back spread and air. That is two distinct sounds from one box, decided in about a minute with a screwdriver.

Connections and looks

Outputs cover 4 and 16 ohms for simple matching to whatever head you put on top. The minimalist design and illuminated logo look right on a stage and in a studio, which is a fair description of the whole St. James idea.
