The St. James combo takes the lightest valve amp Blackstar makes and puts a speaker in the same box. Fifty watts, 6L6 power valves and a single 12 inch driver, in a cabinet you can pick up without planning for it.
Candlenut plywood
The cabinet is built from candlenut plywood, which reduces the weight significantly while maintaining the look and feel of a boutique amplifier. For a 1x12 inch valve combo that is the headline feature, because weight is usually the reason a valve combo stays in the rehearsal room instead of going to the gig.
Two channels through the Zephyr
Two channels cover crystal cleans and overdriven tones, running from glassy through vintage crunch to gut-punching grind. The 6L6-equipped model brings additional heat for today's most aggressive genres while staying sonically balanced. All of it goes through a single Celestion G12Z-70 Zephyr speaker, which is the voice of this combo. Swapping channels is handled by onboard toggles or the included external footswitch, so you can set it up whichever way you work.
Direct recording and quiet playing
Cabinet simulation and power reduction are both fitted as standard. That means the combo can be recorded direct to an interface or run to a desk without a microphone in front of it, and it can be brought down in volume for a room that cannot take 50 valve watts. Blackstar aimed the St. James at studio and stage musicians who want one amp that covers everything from DI recording to live performance, and this is the 1x12 inch version of that idea.
