The 7040A is the most compact professional subwoofer Genelec builds, made to add controlled low end to a small production room without taking the room over. The laminar spiral design keeps output articulate down to 30 Hz, and the Dark Grey Producer finish disappears under a desk or beside a rack.

  • Low end reach: 33 Hz to 85 Hz within plus or minus 3 dB, with a low cutoff of 30 Hz at -6 dB.
  • Amplification: a 50 W Class D bass amplifier with integrated driver protection, feeding a 165 mm cone driver.
  • Output: short term maximum SPL of 100 dB or more, with self-generated noise of 5 dB SPL or less.
  • Bass management on board: low frequency content is filtered out of the main channels and handled by the subwoofer, so the main monitors keep their headroom.
  • Room compensation: the same style of controls used across the Genelec monitor range, so the sub can be matched to the space.
  • Connections: 2 x XLR analog input and 2 x XLR analog output.
  • Cabinet: MDF reflex port enclosure, 410 x 350 x 205 mm (H x W x D), 11.3 kg.

In the box: 1 x 7040A subwoofer, 1 x 1.8 m mains cable and 1 x operating manual.

Description

A good subwoofer is about far more than more bass. The 7040A is Genelec's most compact professional subwoofer, and its job is to extend a nearfield rig downward while staying out of the way of everything above it. The laminar spiral design lets it hold high SPL performance that is precise, articulate and free from distortion right down to 30 Hz. This one ships in the Dark Grey Producer finish.

A seamless partner for Genelec nearfields

Matched with 8010 or 8020 nearfield monitors, the 7040A completes a full range system with no audible handover between the sub and the mains. Nothing draws attention to itself. The bottom octaves simply arrive with the same control as the rest of the spectrum, which is what makes low end decisions in a small room possible at all.

Bass management that gives your monitors room to breathe

Onboard bass management filters low frequency information out of the main channels and takes responsibility for it. The main monitors gain headroom and shed distortion, because they are no longer being asked to move air they were never designed to move. They can put their energy into the rest of the frequency range instead.

Room compensation controls then let you optimise the 7040A for the acoustics you actually work in, exactly as you would with a Genelec monitor. That is the difference between a sub that flatters a room and a sub that lets mixes travel.
