Genelec 8010ARW Compact 2-Way Active Studio Monitor - Raw Aluminium
When the room is small or the session is on the road, the 8010A is the monitor that travels. It measures 195 mm tall with the Iso-Pod fitted and weighs 1.5 kg, yet the enclosure, drivers and electronics are pure Genelec: uncoloured, accurate and genuinely loud for the size. This is the Raw Aluminium version, the die cast enclosure in its natural metal finish.
- Two-way active design: 25 W Class D bass and 25 W Class D treble amplification, driving a 76 mm bass driver and a 19 mm tweeter.
- Response: 74 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 2.5 dB, extending to 67 Hz and 25 kHz at -6 dB.
- Output: short term maximum SPL of 96 dB.
- Room compensation: simple rear panel switches adapt the monitor to a bedroom studio, a hotel room or an OB van.
- Connection: 1 x XLR analog input.
- Size and weight: 195 x 121 x 115 mm (H x W x D) with Iso-Pod, 1.5 kg.
In the box: 1 x 8010A monitor, 1 x 1.8 m mains cable, 1 x Iso-Pod kit and 1 x operating manual. Supplied as a single monitor.
Small size, serious performance. The 8010A exists for the situations where a full sized nearfield will not fit: a corner of a bedroom, a hotel desk, an OB van, a second position beside a bigger pair. The modest dimensions hide a real Genelec monitor, one that stays uncoloured and accurate at levels you would not expect from a 1.5 kg box. In Raw Aluminium, the die cast enclosure is left in its natural metal finish, which reads well on a desk full of hardware.
Trust what you are hearing
The neutral character comes from the way the enclosure, the drivers and the electronics were designed together rather than assembled. A 76 mm bass driver and a 19 mm tweeter are each fed by their own 25 W Class D amplifier, which is why the response holds to 74 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 2.5 dB. Rear panel room compensation switches then take out the worst of whatever surface the monitor is sitting near.
Built for rooms that keep changing
Because the compensation is on the back panel rather than buried in software, moving the 8010A to a new space takes a few seconds. That matters for anyone tracking on location, checking mixes away from the main room, or working in a space that was never meant to be a studio.
Recognised on release
The 8010A took a TEC Award in 2015 in the Studio Monitor Technology category, and was named Best Monitors in MusicTech's Gear of the Year 2014.
