Genelec 8320AWM 4-Inch SAM Active Studio Monitor - White
White is the practical finish for rooms that are not dedicated studios. Against a pale wall, a bright desk or a home office the 8320A stops looking like equipment, which matters when the room has to serve two purposes. This is the entry point into Genelec Smart Active Monitoring.
- Calibrated, not guessed: as a Smart Active Monitor the 8320A integrates with Genelec GLM software, which configures and calibrates it for your listening environment and compensates for detrimental room influences. Calibration requires the GLM software and the GLM Calibration Kit device, which is sold separately.
- Amplification: 50 W Class D on the bass and 50 W Class D on the treble.
- Response: 55 Hz to 23 kHz at -6 dB, holding within 1.5 dB from 66 Hz to 20 kHz.
- Drivers: 105 mm bass and 19 mm treble in a rear ported recycled aluminium enclosure with an integrated waveguide.
- Size and weight: H 242 x W 151 x D 142 mm with the Iso-Pod, at 3.2 kg.
- Connections: one XLR analogue input and two RJ45 control ports.
- In the box: the monitor, a 1.8 m mains cable, a 5 m RJ45 cable and an operating manual.
The 8320A provides transparent and truthful reproduction, and its wide uncoloured sweet spot means you are always in a position to make accurate, reliable mix decisions. In white, it is the version that fits a room where the monitors are not supposed to dominate the furniture.
White in a mixed use room
Plenty of 8320A pairs end up in bedrooms, home offices and edit suites rather than purpose built control rooms. A white cabinet against a light wall reads as part of the desk instead of a pair of black boxes staring back, and the curved aluminium form keeps it from looking bulky. Nothing about the finish changes the acoustics, so this is purely about the room you have.
Compact but clever
As a Smart Active Monitor, the 8320A integrates closely with Genelec GLM software. GLM configures and calibrates the monitor for your listening environment and compensates for detrimental room influences, which turns a compromised space into a usable one and scales from mono all the way to immersive layouts. That makes it a strong pick if you work in challenging acoustic spaces, or if you need a mobile rig that can be recalibrated quickly each time it moves to a different room. Calibration needs the GLM software together with the GLM Calibration Kit device, which is sold separately.
Small cabinet, real low end
The recycled aluminium rear ported enclosure delivers striking low frequency extension for a unit this compact, and its curved form and integrated waveguide keep performance precise and detailed both on and off axis. A 50 W Class D bass amplifier and a 50 W Class D treble amplifier drive a 105 mm bass driver and a 19 mm treble driver, with self generated noise at or below 5 dB SPL.
