The Korg GA-50 is a handheld tuner made for guitar and for bass, with a separate mode for each. Alongside the note name it shows the string number, so there is less guessing when you tune between songs. It fits a case pocket.
Guitar and bass modes
Standard six-string territory is covered, and guitar mode reads a low seventh string as well. Bassists get the usual four plus a low B and a high C. Flat tuning shifts the reference down by one to five semitones in single steps, which handles most detuned and dropped styles without menu digging.
Tuning by ear with sound out
Sound out mode plays a reference pitch through the built-in speaker instead of leaving you with a visual readout alone. That earns its keep when fitting a fresh set of strings: bring each one roughly into place by ear, then switch back to the meter and finish by eye. A 21 mm dynamic driver does the sounding.
Staying in line on stage
Both an input and an output jack are fitted, so the unit can sit between guitar and amplifier. Check tuning mid-set without unplugging anything. Detection lands within one cent, and the reference tones themselves are accurate to 1.5 cents.
Battery life and size
Two AAA cells run the GA-50 for roughly 135 hours of continuous use on zinc-carbon batteries, with a low-power warning on the display before they give out. The body measures 100 by 67 by 17 mm and weighs 81 g with cells fitted. A CM-200 contact microphone is offered separately.
