The KAOSS Pad V is a desktop effects processor and sampler aimed at DJs, remixers and live electronic musicians. It holds 270 programs and takes audio from line sources, a microphone or a guitar. Everything lands in one small box.
Programs to work through
Of the 270 slots on board, 170 arrive filled with Korg presets and 100 are left for your own settings. Sounds you build during a session can therefore live right beside the factory material. Recall is immediate either way.
Sampling and looping
Grabbing a phrase takes one gesture, with sample length running up to eight bars depending on the tempo you are working at. Layers can be overdubbed while the loop keeps playing, and playback holds its position rather than drifting. Gate Hold locks to the BPM, and a choice of playback and slicing modes lets you rearrange what you captured.
Connections for a small rig
Around the back sit stereo line inputs and outputs on pin jacks, plus a 6.3 mm TRS input that runs balanced for a microphone or unbalanced for a guitar. A 6.3 mm stereo headphone jack covers monitoring. MIDI in and out and a USB Type B port handle the rest, so the unit sits happily in a DJ setup or a bedroom studio.
Storage and power
An SD or SDHC card up to 32 GB carries your material between sessions, with Class 10 or faster recommended. Power comes from the supplied DC 9 V adapter. At 1.3 kg it is easy to carry. The quick start guide is in the box.
