The KR-11 is a palm-sized rhythm box with 16 pads, a speaker on board and plenty of patterns to practise against. Each genre holds 14 variations. That comes to 126 presets, with another 14 slots left for ones you build. Guitarists, bassists and keyboard players get a drummer that fits in a gig bag.
Patterns for real practice
Beyond the usual 8-beat and 16-beat grooves sit styles aimed at particular instruments: Blues/R&B and Country for guitar, Island for ukulele. Odd time is covered as well, with three, five and seven beat patterns to work through. Swing loosens any of them. A metronome mode handles plain timing drills.
Finger drumming on the pads
Each of the 16 pads carries a drum sound, from kick and snare to hi-hat and cymbals, and all of them read how hard you strike. Performances you like go into the user bank and come back whenever you want them. The result lands somewhere between a practice tool and a small instrument.
Speaker, pedals and power
Korg's Acoustage processing lifts the low end so bass drums carry through the compact speaker system. Plug into the headphone and line out jack to feed an amp, mixer or PA when you need more level. Two footswitch jacks accept the optional PS-1 or PS-3, handling start and stop, pattern changes and fills, or triggering a single sound in Pad Play mode. Four AA batteries last about 18 hours, and a 9 V adapter is sold separately. The unit weighs 279 g.
