Description

This is the limited edition white Kross 2, a 61-note synthesizer workstation from Korg. Over a thousand programs ship with it, from layered acoustic and electric pianos to thick strings and current drum kits. Band players and producers who want one keyboard to cover most of the job are the target.

The sound library

Polyphony reaches 120 voices, up from 80 on the first generation. Program count climbed from 809 to 1,075 over the same span. Multi-layered pianos are joined by strings that sit properly in a mix, plus kits aimed at styles such as EDM. Preset PCM memory holds roughly 128 MB, made up of 496 multisamples and 1,014 drum samples.

Room to expand

Expansion memory adds another 128 MB. Optional Korg libraries load into that space, so the instrument can be pointed wherever your material goes. Check which titles are current before you plan a set around one.

Engine and effects

Sound generation uses the EDS-i engine, inherited from Korg's professional instruments. Seven effect units run at once, five inserts and two masters. Of the 134 types available, the familiar delays and reverbs are only the start, since amp modelling, vintage boxes and a vocoder are in there as well.

Hands on control

Knobs in the realtime section reach the main parameters without digging through pages. Tempo for the arpeggiator and sequencer sits there too, as do the vocoder settings. Turn the category dial to piano or organ and the list narrows immediately. How quickly do you need to find a sound on stage? Quickly, usually.

Favourites, splits and the sequencer

Favourite slots number 128, twice what the original offered, and each recalls a program or combination at one touch. Live players lean on that hardest. A dedicated button builds a layer or a split, so two sounds stack or divide across the keys in seconds. Recording falls to a 16-track MIDI sequencer, which captures playing, controller moves and pad sampler hits.
