The LP-380U puts a full RH3 weighted action into a slim cabinet, with two 10 cm speakers and a pair of 22 W amplifiers inside. This one is the white finish. A stand and AC adapter are supplied, and a type B USB socket links the piano to a computer or tablet.
Four samples, chosen by your touch
Rather than stretch one recording across every dynamic level, the sound engine switches between four piano samples as you play harder or softer. Soft passages keep their own character, not merely a lower volume, and a crescendo changes timbre on the way up. Classic Piano and Grand Piano go further by reproducing the damper resonance an acoustic gives when the right pedal is held down.
Electric pianos with the noises left in
Six electric piano voices cover the pop tones of the 1960s and 1970s along with the sounds associated with soul records. Beyond how the timbre answers your touch, Korg modelled the small mechanical noise a key makes when it lifts. Those tiny artefacts are the detail most instruments drop. Nothing was scrubbed out.
Thirty sounds and room for two
Piano and electric variants sit alongside a wider set that totals thirty voices. Layer mode stacks two of them under a single press, while partner mode divides the keyboard into left and right halves sharing the same pitch range. Teacher and pupil share one instrument. Headphone jacks are fitted in pairs, so both can hear without waking the house.
Touch, tuning and effects
Three touch curves adjust how hard you have to hit for a given volume. Nine temperaments are available for anyone playing with period instruments or exploring historical tuning, and transpose plus fine tuning handle the everyday cases. For tone shaping there is a trio of effects: brilliance for brightness, reverb for hall ambience and chorus for width, each with three levels. A metronome with tempo, time signature, accent, sound and volume controls sits alongside thirty demo songs.
The cabinet, the speakers and the pedals
Two 10 cm drivers and 22 W of amplification per side give enough level for a room without a separate system. Damper, soft and sostenuto pedals are all present, with half-pedalling supported on the first two, which matters once repertoire calls for partial releases. With the stand, the whole instrument weighs 37 kg and takes 1,355 mm of wall. A cover slides over the keyboard.
Software, lessons and a distribution coupon
Buyers get three months of Skoove Premium, an app carrying over 500 piano lessons and a library of more than 800 arrangements running from classical to current chart material. Korg Module for iOS adds a professional sound set, and Korg Gadget 2 Le turns an iPad or iPhone into a small production studio of synths and drum machines. In both cases the link is USB, though the cable and any Lightning adaptor cost extra. A TuneCore coupon worth 50% off a single or album release is included as well.
