Korg's miniKORG 700FS is a limited edition revival of the 700, an analogue synth that plays one note at a time. Thirty-seven keys respond to aftertouch, though not to velocity, and the span on offer covers seven octaves. A hard case is included.
One voice at a time
Because only a single note sounds at once, everything goes into that one line, which is why the instrument suits bass, leads and effects rather than chords. Fourteen program slots hold settings you want to return to. Under the fingers, aftertouch adds movement to a held note.
Waveforms and the Traveler
Triangle, square and sawtooth shapes form the starting point, joined by the Chorus I and Chorus II settings that gave the original its character. Two spare Traveler knobs come in the box, of the type without protrusions. Swap them if you like.
Talking to the rest of the rig
CV IN and GATE IN arrive on 3.5 mm mono jacks, with SYNC IN and SYNC OUT on the same format for locking to a drum machine or sequencer. On the digital side there is MIDI IN and a USB type B port. An audio input on a 6.3 mm jack takes an outside signal, while outputs cover L/MONO and R plus headphones.
Bench space and power
At 744 x 280 x 122 mm and 8.5 kg this is a substantial thing to lift, so allow room for it. Power comes from the supplied DC 12 V adapter and draws 9 W. Patch cables are sold separately, under the SQ-CABLE-6 name.
