The nanoKEY Fold is a 25-note MIDI controller that folds in half, shown here in Alpine Green. Silent membrane keys, scale guidance, chord and arpeggiator modes and two touch sliders are packed into 126 g. It suits anyone writing on a laptop in cafes, hotel rooms or on a commute.
Folds down to pocket size
Closed, the controller measures 147 x 73 x 17 mm. Opened out for playing it stretches to 282 x 73 x 14 mm, still slim enough to sit in front of a laptop without crowding the trackpad. Weight is 126 g. A bag will not notice it.
Keys that make no noise
Korg built the keybed from membrane buttons tuned for a usable amount of give, and they stay silent under the fingers. Late sessions in a shared flat or a hotel room stop being a problem. Velocity response can be set across thirteen levels, so the feel can be matched to how hard you actually play.
Scale guidance and chords
Fifteen scales are built in, and the LEDs light to show which notes belong. Easy Scale mode goes further by making every key press land in the chosen scale, useful if theory is not your strong suit. Chord mode assigns a chord to each key based on the scale and root you pick, which turns sketching a progression into a one-finger job.
Arpeggiator and touch sliders
The built-in arpeggiator covers a wide set of patterns, with fifteen rhythm variations and dedicated controls for changing them on the fly. Two touch sliders handle pitch and modulation as standard. Assign them instead to specific CC numbers, or have them play notes from the current scale as you glide a finger along.
Split it in two
Split mode lets the left and right halves run different modes at the same time. Chords on one side and a melody on the other is the obvious use, though you can also reserve a half for control or program changes. Fifteen scenes hold your setups.
Getting it connected
A USB-C port handles both data and power, drawing 500 mA or less from the host. There is also a MIDI OUT on a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack, and Korg supplies the type A TRS to DIN adapter cable needed to reach older hardware. A USB cable and quick start guide are in the box.
