The NTS-3 is a pocket-sized KAOSS pad that you assemble yourself from a kit. Touch control, 35 effects and 200 program slots live in a case a little over 100 mm square. It suits anyone curious about how their gear goes together as much as players after hands-on processing.
Building it yourself
Inside the box are the parts, a USB cable and a set of assembly instructions. Building it is half the fun. You finish knowing what is under the panel, which is unusual with modern equipment.
The effects on board
Thirty-five effects split across categories: five filters, six modulation types, four delays and five reverbs. Another five cover looper, grainshifter and vinyl break style treatments, while seven are aimed at mastering. Three more work as oscillators. Programs number 200, half loaded at the factory and half left empty for you.
Power and connections
USB supplies the power at 500 mA or less, so a laptop port will run it. Audio leaves through a 3.5 mm jack that doubles as the headphone output. The unit weighs 119 g. Measuring 104 by 101 by 39 mm, it takes up about the footprint of a coaster.
