The Pitchblack X Pro is a single rack space tuner for guitarists and bassists who keep their signal chain in a case. Strobe mode reads to within a tenth of a cent, and two independent input and output paths let two instruments stay patched at once. A cable check jack is built in for testing leads before the doors open.
Accurate across the whole range
Detection runs from E0 at 20.60 Hz up to C8 at 4,186 Hz, which comfortably covers a five string bass through to harmonics on a guitar. Calibration moves in single hertz steps between 436 and 445 Hz. Input impedance sits at 1 M ohm when the unit is engaged, so your tone is not loaded down.
Four ways to read the display
Regular, strobe, half strobe and focus modes are selectable, so you can move between a quick visual lock and fine adjustment. Five LED colour schemes are available, including two red gradations and three single colours. Pick whichever reads best onstage.
Connections front and back
Input and output jacks appear on both the front panel and the rear, all on 6.3 mm monaural sockets. Rear connections suit a permanent rack build, while the front pair is there for a quick check on a guest instrument. The separate cable check jack tells you whether a suspect lead is the problem. Power comes from the supplied 9 V adapter.
Fitting it in the rack
Two mounting adapters are supplied along with the screws and washers, bringing the width to 482 mm for a standard 19 inch rack. Without them the chassis measures 430 mm across. It weighs 379 g.
