The ST1K is a compact tuner built for analogue and modular synthesizers rather than guitars. Its meter uses a three-dimensional display designed to stay readable while you are patching. Oscillators drift, and chasing them by ear eats studio time, so a dedicated reader earns its desk space.
Accuracy and range
Pitch is resolved to within 0.1 cents, which is fine enough to match two oscillators before you detune them on purpose. Detection spans A0 to C8. Calibration moves from 436 to 445 Hz in single hertz steps, so the tuner follows an ensemble rather than dictating to it.
In line with your rig
Quarter-inch input and output jacks let it sit between a synth and whatever comes next in the chain. A conversion plug in the box steps 3.5 mm up to the larger size, which covers most desktop and semi-modular gear. Three switches handle power, display and calibration.
Power and size
Two AAA cells keep it running for roughly 50 hours of continuous use, and manganese, alkaline or rechargeable nickel-metal hydride types all suit. At 99 by 65 by 16 mm the body takes almost no bench space, and it weighs 83 g with batteries fitted. Drop it in the gig bag. Nothing else to set up.
