Mackie 802VLZ4 8-Channel Ultra-Compact Analog Mixer with Onyx Preamps
The 802VLZ4 is the desk-friendly VLZ4. It keeps the Onyx preamps and the steel chassis but shrinks the footprint to something that lives beside a keyboard and monitor without taking over, which is why it turns up so often in home studios, broadcast positions and content creation setups.
- 3 Onyx mic preamps with an ultra-wide 60dB gain range and phantom power for condenser mics
- Selectable instrument inputs on the first two channels, so a guitar or bass plugs straight in with no DI box
- 8 high-headroom line inputs
- 3-band EQ at 80Hz, 2.5kHz and 12kHz
- 18 dB per octave 100Hz low-cut filter on the mic input channels
- Aux send plus level, pan and PFL solo on each channel
- Stereo return for an effects processor or another stereo source
- ALT 3/4 stereo bus for extra routing flexibility
- Control room and phones source matrix
- High-resolution stereo meters and high-contrast controls for at-a-glance feedback
- Built-Like-A-Tank steel chassis with a powder-coat finish and sealed rotary controls
Not every room needs fourteen channels. The 802VLZ4 is the ultra-compact end of the VLZ4 family, built around three mic inputs and eight line inputs in a body small enough to sit permanently on a desk.
What the smaller size gives you
The trade for the reduced channel count is a mixer you can leave set up in a home studio, a streaming corner or a broadcast booth. The first two channels have selectable instrument inputs, so a guitar or bass goes straight in without a DI box, which matters when there is no room for extra boxes on the desk.
Onyx preamp performance
The three mic channels use the same boutique-quality Onyx preamps as the rest of the range, with a 60dB gain range, 128.5 dB dynamic range and +22 dBu line input handling. Distortion is quoted under 0.0007% across 20Hz-50kHz, and the improved RF rejection is aimed squarely at broadcast use.
