The HR624mk2 is the 6-inch model in the Mackie HRmk2 line, built for nearfield work where a larger cabinet would overload the room. A passive radiator does the job a port would normally do, which is how a monitor this size still reaches down to 45Hz.

  • 6.7-inch LF transducer: high-precision and low-distortion, paired with a 1-inch titanium dome, ferro-fluid cooled tweeter.
  • Twin FR Series amplifiers: 100W for low frequencies and 40W for high frequencies, matched to the drivers.
  • Passive radiator design: tight, articulate bass extension down to 45Hz without a large cabinet.
  • Ultra-linear frequency response: intended for mixes that translate to other systems.
  • Optimised waveguide: a wide, even sweet zone so small head movements do not change the picture.
  • Zero-Edge Baffle: reduces the diffraction that smears imaging at the cabinet edge.
  • Room controls: acoustic space, LF roll-off and HF adjustment to suit the position and the room.
  • Connections: balanced XLR, balanced TRS and unbalanced RCA inputs.
  • THX pm3 certified: approved for surround applications, and it shares a design with the larger HR824mk2 so the two work together in one system.
  • Practical touches: full internal damping to kill midrange artefacts, rotatable logo for vertical or horizontal placement, plus power and overload LEDs.

Description

Choosing between the 6-inch and 8-inch HRmk2 monitors is mostly a room question. The HR624mk2 is the one for smaller control rooms, desks and project studios where an 8-inch woofer would excite more low end than the space can handle. What it does not do is give up low frequency reach to get there.

The passive radiator approach

Instead of a conventional port, the HR624mk2 uses a passive radiator to extend bass down to 45Hz. The result Mackie is after is tight, articulate low end you can feel as well as hear, from a cabinet that still sits comfortably on a meter bridge. Internal damping is applied throughout to remove the midrange artefacts that a hollow box otherwise adds to the sound.

Drivers and amplification

  • 6.7-inch high-precision, low-distortion low frequency transducer.
  • 1-inch titanium dome tweeter with ferro-fluid cooling.
  • Optimised waveguide for a wide, even sweet zone.
  • Twin FR Series amplifiers, 100W on the woofer and 40W on the tweeter.
  • Zero-Edge Baffle to limit edge diffraction.
  • Power and overload LEDs on the front.

Fitting it to your room and rig

Acoustic space, LF roll-off and HF controls let you compensate for a monitor sitting against a wall or in a corner rather than pretending every room is neutral. Inputs cover balanced XLR, balanced TRS and unbalanced RCA, so it connects to an interface, a monitor controller or a consumer source without adapters. The monitor is THX pm3 approved for surround work, and because it shares its design with the larger HR824mk2, the two can be combined in one surround or stereo plus sub system. The logo rotates for horizontal placement.
