Mackie built the MC-150 on the back of its studio monitor work, so the brief was familiar, reveal detail without making the listener work for it. The result is a closed-back professional headphone with a noticeably punchy low end.
The 50mm driver
A precision 50mm transducer sits behind each cup, covering 15Hz-20kHz with an emphasis on low-frequency authority. Increased bass response means you feel every note, kick drum and deep synth, which is exactly what DJs and beat-driven sessions ask for. Impedance is 33 Ohms and sensitivity is rated at 93 dB, so phone and interface outputs drive them without trouble.
Comfort and isolation
The headband is soft, padded and adjustable, and the ear pads conform around the ear to hold both the seal and the fit. That seal is doing double duty, it keeps the low end where it belongs and keeps bleed out of an open mic during tracking.
