Mackie MP-220 Dual Dynamic Driver Professional In-Ear Monitors
The MP-220 is the dual driver step in the Mackie MP Series. Splitting the work across two dynamic drivers per side means each one runs easier at high stage levels, and efficiency stays more even across the frequency range. Dynamic drivers are strong on bass, so the low end gains as well.
- Dual precision dynamic drivers: cleaner performance at higher levels with more detail than a single driver can resolve.
- Up to 40dB of sound isolation: enough to get stage volume out of the way so you can monitor at a sensible level.
- Low-profile ergonomic shell: molded for comfort and bass response and designed to sit flush.
- Detachable MMCX cable: shielded and braided for durability, with a connector that swivels for comfort.
- Over-ear routing: keeps the monitors seated and the cable behind your head through a set.
- Nine sets of ear tips: foam, silicone and double flange, each in small, medium and large.
- Included: hard case and a gold-plated eighth-inch to quarter-inch adapter.
- Key figures: 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, 16 Ohms plus or minus 15%, dual dynamic transducers, sensitivity 88dB plus or minus 3dB at 1mW at 1kHz.
- Bluetooth option: also available bundled with the MP-BTA Bluetooth adapter.
Moving from a single driver in-ear to the MP-220 changes one specific thing: there are now two dynamic drivers in each monitor sharing the same job. That is not a cosmetic upgrade. Two drivers resolve detail and nuance a single driver has to smear, and because dynamic drivers are particularly good at low frequencies, doubling them adds bass authority as well.
Why two drivers matter on stage
At the levels a working monitor mix demands, a single driver is doing everything at once. Sharing that load lets the MP-220 stay clean as levels rise and keeps efficiency more even from top to bottom, so the balance you set at soundcheck is the balance you hear during the show. Isolation of up to 40dB does the other half of the job by shutting out the wash coming off the stage.
Fit, cable and durability
- Ergonomically molded low-profile enclosure for comfort, seal and bass response.
- Shielded braided cable built for extra durability.
- Detachable MMCX connector that swivels, so a damaged cable is replaced rather than the monitors.
- Over-ear design that keeps the cable behind your head and the monitors locked in place.
- Three tip materials, foam, silicone and double flange, in small, medium and large.
What comes with it
A hard case protects the monitors between gigs, and a gold-plated eighth-inch to quarter-inch adapter covers connection to a mixer or headphone amp rather than just a beltpack. Published specifications are 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, 16 Ohms impedance within 15%, and sensitivity of 88dB within 3dB measured at 1mW at 1kHz. If you want to use them for playback away from the stage, the MP-220 is also available bundled with the MP-BTA Bluetooth adapter.
