Mackie MR624 6.5 inch Powered Studio Monitor
The MR Series has been Mackie's answer to a working studio budget since 2008. The MR624 is the 6.5 inch model, which is usually the sweet spot for a home or project room: enough woofer to reach 38 Hz, small enough that the room does not fight back.

Mackie launched the MR Series in 2008 on a simple premise, that a monitor at a sensible price could still meet the demands of a professional studio. The MR624 is the 6.5 inch model in the current range, and it is built for the room most people actually work in rather than a purpose-built control room.
Drivers and amplification
A 6.5 inch polypropylene woofer delivers the responsive, dynamic low-frequency response, reaching down to 38 Hz. Above it, a 1 inch silk dome tweeter provides fast transient response, which is what makes detail in the high end and vocal articulation legible rather than merely bright. Behind them sit 65 watts of bi-amplified Class A/B amplification, so the crossover is done before the power stage and each driver has an amplifier matched to it.
The waveguide and the sweet spot
Mackie's proven logarithmic waveguide is the part that changes how the monitor behaves in a room. It produces ultra-wide dispersion, which widens the listening sweet spot and improves stereo imaging. Practically, that means the mix does not fall apart when you shift in your chair or when a second person sits beside you, and it makes the monitors more forgiving of a desk that is not perfectly symmetrical. Precise acoustic alignment keeps the response balanced across the entire frequency spectrum rather than only on-axis.
Setting them up for your room
Two sets of controls handle placement. Adjustable acoustic space filters maintain a flat response in typical placement configurations, so putting the monitors near a wall or into a corner does not automatically leave you with an exaggerated low end. A separate HF filter applies boost or cut to compensate for a particularly dull or bright sounding room. Between them, most home and project rooms can be brought close enough to neutral to trust what you are hearing.
Cabinet and expansion
The cabinet is professional all-wood construction with custom designed internal bracing, which adds stiffness, reduces distortion and improves low-frequency response. Sound-tightening acoustic absorption material inside handles internal reflections. Inputs are flexible enough for almost any audio source, so an interface, a mixer or a monitor controller all connect without adapters. When the work runs deeper than a 6.5 inch woofer can reach, the companion MRS10 studio subwoofer extends the low end for electronic music, hip-hop and similar material.
