The MRS10 is the subwoofer that finishes an MR series monitoring setup. It adds the octave your mains cannot reach and, just as usefully, takes the low-frequency load off them so they can concentrate on mids and highs. Small monitors run out of low end long before the music does. The Mackie MRS10 is a 10 inch powered studio subwoofer built to fill that gap for producers, beatmakers and engineers working on material where the bass is the point.
Driver and amplifier
A 10 inch glass aramid composite woofer is driven by 120 watts of Class-D amplification, in a shelf-ported cabinet tuned for deep low end. The design brief was responsive and accurate low-frequency reproduction rather than raw volume, which is what you want when the sub is there to inform mix decisions.
Integration with your monitors
Stereo XLR and TRS inputs take the feed from your interface, and matching stereo XLR and TRS outputs carry on to the mains. The crossover point is adjustable from 40Hz to 180Hz, so you can set the handover to suit whatever monitors you already own, and a polarity switch offers 0 degrees or 180 degrees to line the sub up with them at the crossover. Handing the low frequencies to the MRS10 lets the mains focus on highs and mids.
Checking your mix without the sub
An included footswitch bypasses the subwoofer and returns the connected monitors to full range. That makes A and B checking a one-tap job, which is how you keep a bass-heavy mix honest on smaller playback systems.
Cabinet
The enclosure is professional all-wood construction, built to last and to sit sensibly in a studio, on vibration-absorbing rubber feet that keep resonance out of the floor and the desk.
