Mackie describes SRM212 V-Class as setting a new industry standard for portable loudspeakers, and the specification backs the ambition, a 12 inch two-way with 2000 watts of Class-D power and every part of the design done in house.

The amplifier platform

The 2000W Class-D amplifier is built on the most advanced platform Mackie has developed, and it is rated to outperform other portable loudspeakers on SPL while holding stability, fidelity and reliability. Power Factor Correction is the detail worth knowing about, it keeps the SRM212 rock solid and loud in the kind of venue where the mains supply sags the moment the lighting rig comes up.

Transducers and horn

The drivers are custom and deliberately over-engineered, with large magnets, robust motors, purpose-built voice coils and a polymer high-frequency driver. The cabinet was then engineered around them, adding cooling vents and directional porting so heat leaves the box rather than shortening the life of the voice coils. The custom Sym-X horn lets the HF compression driver work near maximum efficiency, keeping the response flat through the crossover point and making the transition from low to high symmetrical, which is what produces the smooth midrange.

Advanced Impulse DSP

Advanced Impulse DSP is not simple filtering. By employing FIR filtering more thoroughly, it removes the anomalies a loudspeaker and horn add to a signal, from honkiness and squelch through to mushy low end, so what comes out of the box is closer to what went in.
