The DEU1 pairs the DE5 low-profile headset microphone with the UP1 USB audio adapter, so a laptop goes from built-in mic to broadcast-quality voice with one plug. Samson aims it at content creators, journalists, vloggers, streamers and remote workers.

  • DE5 headset microphone: a low-profile binaural headset with a 5mm capsule and a lightweight, secure fit.
  • Omnidirectional pattern: picks up evenly in all directions with no proximity effect or off-axis colouration, so your voice stays consistent even if the boom shifts.
  • UP1 USB adapter: analog-to-digital conversion with a 3.5 mm microphone input and a 3.5 mm stereo headphone output.
  • USB Type-C, with a USB C to USB A adapter included: connects to current and older machines.
  • Mute switch on the adapter: a physical control instead of hunting for the software button.
  • Audio quality: 16-bit at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, with a 12 Hz to 18 kHz microphone input response and 87 dB of dynamic range.
  • Runs on the bus: +5V DC at 100 mA maximum, no external power supply.
  • Works across systems: MacOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

Plug-and-play operation means no driver hunting before a call or a recording.

Description

Most people who need better audio on a computer do not need a studio microphone. They need their voice, at a consistent level, without a stand in the way of the screen. That is what the DEU1 bundle is for: the DE5 headset microphone plus the UP1 USB audio adapter, connected directly to a PC, Mac or Chromebook with simple plug-and-play operation.

The DE5 headset

The DE5 is a low-profile headset microphone with a 5mm capsule on a lightweight binaural frame that sits securely and comfortably. Its omnidirectional pickup pattern captures sound evenly in all directions without proximity effect or off-axis colouration, which in daily use means clear, articulate voice reproduction no matter where the capsule ends up relative to your mouth. That is the practical argument for omnidirectional on a headset: it forgives the boom drifting during a two hour session.

The UP1 adapter

  • 3.5 mm mono microphone input with +3V DC mic bias on the tip.
  • 3.5 mm stereo headphone output for monitoring.
  • Mute switch.
  • USB Type-C connector, with a USB C to USB A adapter in the box.
  • 16-bit conversion at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz.
  • Bus powered at +5V DC, 100 mA maximum.

The numbers that matter

Microphone input response runs 12 Hz to 18 kHz at +0 and -1 dB, with a maximum input signal of +11 dBu and 87 dB of dynamic range. The headphone output covers 20 Hz to 18 kHz and delivers 25 mW, with 93 dB of dynamic range and a noise floor of -95 dBu (A weighted). None of that is exotic, and it is not meant to be. It is clean, quiet conversion that stays out of the way of your voice.

Where it fits

Samson lists the DEU1 for work from home, content creation, audio for video and education. It suits video calls and remote teaching, voice tracks for edits, field interviews on a laptop and streaming setups where a desk mic would be in shot. The adapter weighs 19 g, works with MacOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android, and travels in a pocket.
