The MBA38 is a steel articulating boom arm for radio, podcast and home studio desks. Maximum horizontal and vertical reach is 38 inches, and internal springs let you move the mic silently while a recording or broadcast is running.

  • 38 inch reach: maximum horizontal and vertical arm reach, so the mic gets to your mouth and then gets out of the frame.
  • Internal springs: silent and effortless positioning, which is the point during a live broadcast or an open microphone in a session.
  • Two mounting options included: a C-clamp for temporary attachment to a table or desk, and a flange mount for a permanent fixing to a surface.
  • Steel construction: durable enough to hold position rather than sag over the course of a session.
  • 5/8 inch 27 mic threading: the standard thread, so it takes normal mic clips and shockmounts.
  • Load capacity: accommodates any microphone weighing up to five pounds.

Samson lists the MBA38 for home audio, work from home, content creation, audio for video and education. If you need more distance from the mount point to the mic, the 48 inch MBA48 is the longer version of the same idea.

Description

A boom arm gets the microphone off the desk, which stops every keystroke and coffee cup from arriving in the recording, and it gets the stand out of the shot. The MBA38 is Samson's 38 inch articulating arm for radio, podcast and home studio setups.

Reach and movement

The articulating design provides a maximum horizontal and vertical arm reach of 38 inches, which gives real flexibility in where the microphone ends up relative to where the arm is clamped. Internal springs allow silent and effortless positioning. That is the feature that matters most in practice, because you will reposition the mic mid session, and a noisy arm puts that noise straight into the take.

Two ways to mount it

  • C-clamp mount: temporary attachment to a table or desk, easy to move to another room or another desk.
  • Flange mount: fixed more permanently to a surface, for a studio position that is not going to change.

Both are included, so you are not buying the mount separately after deciding how the room works.

Build and load

Construction is durable steel, and the arm offers 5/8 inch 27 mic clip threading, the standard size, so your existing clip or shockmount will thread straight on. It accommodates any microphone weighing up to five pounds. Check the weight of your mic plus shockmount against that figure before you load it, especially with heavier broadcast dynamics in a spider mount.

Who it is for

Samson lists the MBA38 for home audio, work from home, content creation, audio for video and education. It is the everyday choice for a podcast desk, a streaming position or a spare room studio. Samson also makes the MBA48, a 48 inch version, if your desk is deep or the clamp point is further from where you sit than usual.
