The AC4 Hand-Wired recreates the British tube tone Vox was making in its early 1960s heyday, using the construction methods of that era rather than a modern approximation of them. Chime, jangle and grit, with a dynamic feel and touch sensitivity that comes from the circuit rather than from a setting.
Traditional turret board construction
Most modern amplifiers are machine made. This one is not. Under the hood sits an old-school turret board, crafted and wired the same way a Vox would have been built in the 1960s. That is the difference between this and the rest of the line.
Custom transformers and power circuits
Custom-made transformers and custom-designed power circuits were specified for tone quality and for reliable operation, and they are matched to the rest of the hand-wired signal path.
A thinner cabinet
The cabinet is slimmer than you might expect. That does two things. It adds harmonic content to the sound, and it makes a 1x12 combo much easier to carry to a session.
Spring reverb and an FX loop
A splashy old-school spring reverb circuit gives the sound space and dimension. The FX loop is there so delays, modulation and other time-based pedals sit in the chain crisply instead of muddying the front end.
