Vox V846 Vintage Wah-Wah Pedal, 1967 Reissue
Working vintage V846 pedals are rare and expensive. The V846 Vintage is a re-creation of the 1967 original, built the same way the company built them then.
- Faithful re-creation of the original 1967 V846 wah
- Hand-selected components chosen for quality and consistency
- 3D scanned chassis: the curves of original units were measured and applied to the new build
- Aggressive voice suited to psychedelic rock
- Smooth treadle with a wide sweep
- Powered by a 9V battery, sold separately
- Built the old way: custom-designed parts replicate the original circuit
The V846 took over from the Clyde McCoy in the late 1960s with a more aggressive tone and a wider sweep, and this is that pedal rather than an interpretation of it.
Functional vintage V846 pedals are extremely rare and command high prices on the used market. The V846 Vintage puts that circuit back within reach as a precise re-creation of the 1967 effect, using premium hand-selected components to reach the wah tones heard on countless records.
A brief history of the V846
In 1967 Vox revealed the Clyde McCoy, a pedal initially aimed at trumpet players. Guitarists took to the wah-wah effect quickly, Vox took notice, and the V846 followed with a more aggressive tone and a wider sweep. It went on to define the sound of psychedelia under the feet of the genre's most famous players.
Made the old-school way
Vox builds each V846 Vintage the way it did in the late 1960s. Everything matches, from the precisely shaped chassis to the guts inside it, and custom-designed parts replicate the original circuit. Each component is selected by hand for quality and consistency.
Scanned from the originals
To get the shape right rather than close, Vox used 3D scanning to measure the curves of original units and applied those measurements to the new models. The result looks and feels like the pedal it is based on.
