A 20-watt 1x8 modeling combo that puts a genuine tube preamp circuit in front of the digital section, so the response has the feel of a valve amp rather than just the shape of one. Vox analysed actual amp components and circuits when designing it, which is why the models hold together under scrutiny.

  • Format: 20 watts, 1 x 8 inch combo
  • Preamp: multi-stage Valvetronix tube circuit, true tube
  • Power amp: unique analog circuit combined with a high-performance digital power amp
  • Amp models: 11, built with Virtual Elements Technology
  • Effects: 13 classic stompbox effects

Description

The VT20X uses sophisticated digital technology alongside a unique analog circuit to deliver authentic tube power amp performance. Vox analysed actual amp components and circuits when designing it, which is why each of the 11 amplifier models holds up rather than sounding like an approximation.

Hybrid analog and digital

Vox did not simply model the sound of guitar amplifiers here. Virtual Elements Technology analyses each amp down to the component level, producing a true-to-life reproduction of that model's characteristics. The power amp stage then combines an analog circuit with a high-performance digital power amp to duplicate the tonal differences between Class A and Class AB, the effect of bias values on tone, and the way a tube's dynamic response changes as it works.

A real tube preamp

A multi-stage Valvetronix preamp incorporates true tube circuitry, so the distortion, the response and the tonal character behave the way a classic valve amp does. You feel the subtle nuances instead of hearing a version of them.

High-performance DSP

Highly sophisticated DSP gives the VT20X a lot of processing power to spend. It shows up in the sampling rate, in the 11 realistic amp models and in the quality of the 13 onboard stompbox effects.

Tone Room editor and librarian

The included Tone Room software puts a large amount of customising power on your computer. You can tweak parameters far enough that it starts to feel like building an amp rather than adjusting one. Used with the VT20X it opens up a broader range of 20 realistic models of some of the most sought-after amplifiers around, and there are 60 preset programs to work from.

Cabinet design

A tightly sealed cabinet with an expertly designed bass-reflex structure is what lets a 1x8 combo produce a tone well beyond what its size suggests.
