The MA2 answers a problem every Handy Recorder owner meets eventually. The recorder has a tripod thread on its base, but the stands already in the room are microphone stands with mic clips on top. On a stand
The first use Zoom points at is live performance capture. A recorder on a stand at the front of a stage, or on a boom over a drum kit or a choir, stays exactly where you put it for the whole set. Nobody has to hold it, nothing gets knocked, and the position you found in soundcheck is the position you get on the recording. It also lifts the recorder off tables and floors, away from the footsteps and chair scrapes that a tabletop position picks up.
In the hand
The second use is less obvious and just as valuable. Hold the recorder by the MA2 instead of gripping the body, and handling noise drops dramatically. Any grip on a recorder body passes skin and clothing noise into the capsules, and putting a rigid adapter between your hand and the unit breaks that path.
